Why Aloe Vera works:

The gel from the Aloe Vera plant is rich in Vitamin A, C, E; all that are good to keep the skin healthy.

It contains antioxidants to slow down the process of skin ageing.

The gel is highly anti-inflammatory that reduce the pain and swelling of small wounds and injuries.

It contains 98%water which helps moisturize, and hydrate the skin, plus gives the cooling effect on sunburn or rashes.

Aloe Vera DIY skincare is a budget-friendly beauty solution too, straight from your kitchen.

How to extract Aloe Gel from the leaves of the Plant:

  1. Cut the leaf from the plant, rinse it with water and let it air dry.
  2. Place the cut side of the leaf upside down in a glass for 15-20 minutes to allow the aloe Vera latex to drain out. Discard it.
  3. Cut the spines off both sides of the leaf.
  4. Place the leaf flat, and slice it down the centre from one end to another.
  5. Scoop out the gel, wash it with water and put it in a small jar.
  6. You can store the gel in the refrigerator for up to a week.

How to Use in your skincare routine:

As Face Moisturiser: You just need two ingredients for this: Aloe Vera gel and Jojoba Oil ( you can use almond or argan oil too). Mix both in equal quantities in a small bowl and then transfer the contents in a bottle. Take a pea-sized mixture in your hands and apply it all over the face daily. You need to refrigerate the moisturiser and use it in 3-4 days.

As a Face mask: Take Aloe Vera gel, Olive oil and a small amount of finely-ground oats in a bowl. Mix everything to form a paste. Apply a layer all over the face, leave for 15 minutes and wash it off.

Alternatively, mix one tablespoon each of Aloe Vera gel, yoghurt and cucumber juice. Leave for 15-20 minutes on the skin and then rinse off

For Hair: Aloe Vera contains Pectin, which helps control dandruff. Take Aloe Vera gel in a blender and liquify it. Apply it all over the scalp and strand of hair – from roots to end and leave it overnight or at least for a few hours. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.

To diminish acne scars: Vitamin C in Aloe gel helps reduce hyperpigmentation. Mix little Aloe gel with a pinch of turmeric. Apply it over the scars and leave for 20 minutes. Wash with plain water. Repeat this 2-3 times a week for a better result.

For sunburns: If the burn is mild, apply a layer of chilled Aloe Vera gel on the affected area, few times a day. You should not use this DIY in case the sunburn is severe or if it’s a case of 2nd and 3rd-degree burn. Such burns require medical attention.

Precaution while using Aloe Vera Gel:

Do a patch test before applying Aloe Vera on the skin. Apply a small amount on your wrist or inner part of your arm before putting it on your face, to make sure you aren’t allergic to it.
