Gram Flour:How to Use this Natural ingredient for your Skincare routine.

Gram Flour or Besan as a beauty remedy has been passed on from one generation to another. This humble kitchen ingredient can be used to get the glow back on the skin, remove tan and pigmentation, and keep skin moisturized. It can be applied alone (mixing just with water) or can be paired with other natural ingredients that enhance its benefits for the skin.

Why does it work?

For one, Gram flour has the mineral Zinc in it, and when applied topically Zinc is helpful for inflammatory skin conditions like acne, eczema, ulcers etc.

Besan has anti-microbial properties and is known to work its magic in removing dirt and toxins from the inner layers of the skin too.

How to use it in your skincare routine: This miracle ingredient can be used in many ways and for many purposes:

As a moisturizing face pack for dry skin: Mix 1 tablespoon Besan, 1 tbsp honey and (mashed)half ripe banana in a bowl. Apply a layer on the face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash it off with water. This pack bring back its softness of dry skin for a sure shot.

Face pack for Oily skin:  Gram Flour helps absorbs excess oil from the skin and removes impurities too. For Oily skin you can make face packs in two ways:

  1. Mix equal parts of besan and yoghurt and apply the paste.
  2. Mix 2 tbsp of besan and 3 tbsp of rose water and apply the paste to the face.

Keep the paste on the face for 15 minutes and then wash it off.

To lighten the skin: Besan when mixed with tomato puree and lemon juice helps lighten, brighten and rejuvenate facial skin. You need to take a half-ripe tomato and blend it to obtain a puree. Combine it with half tsp lemon juice and one tablespoon of besan. Apply the mixture all over the face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.

For Acne and Acne scars: Mix one tbsp besan, a pinch of turmeric and 1tsp milk to make a paste. Apply evenly on the face and wash it off with lukewarm water after 10-15 minutes. For spot treatment of pimples, you can add a little sandalwood powder too in the above mixture. Sandalwood powder dries out pimple effectively.

To remove Suntan: Mix 2 tablespoons of Besan, 2 tsp lemon juice and little yoghurt to make a smooth paste (use curd for oily skin and milk cream, malai, for dry skin). Apply a layer on the skin and rinse with cool water once it dries.

As Body Scrub: Besan is a great exfoliator. To remove dead cells and impurities from the skin make a besan scrub by combining 1tsp oats flour and 1tsp raw milk with 2tsp of besan. Apply the mixture to the body. Gently scrub in a circular motion and wash off.

As pack for dry hair: Take 2tbsp besan, 2tsp honey and 1-2 tsp coconut or olive oil. Mix all three ingredients in a bowl, add water if required. Apply this mixture on the scalp and hair and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Precautions while using Gram flour or Besan: Besan has the tendency to absorb oil, so it might not be advisable to use this ingredient alone if you have dry skin.

Always do a patch test before applying any home remedy for beauty.
