Our hair is our crowning glory. Sitting at the top of the head, they make or mar the looks of a person; beautiful hair symbolizes health and personality, whereas dull hair indicates deficiency. Since a healthy nourished mane instantly uplifts one’s mood and keeps the person confident always, it’s important to keep it nourished from roots to end. The easiest way to do so is treating your hair to regular oiling and using good shampoo and conditioner; and if the products have onions as the main ingredient, it works wonders.
Onions are an integral part of preparing food dishes, but if I tell you onions can also be used in your hair care routine, it might leave you surprised.
Why Onions for hair care:
Onions are rich in sulphur, which helps regenerate hair follicles. Onion juice and oils may add volume to hair when used regularly. For the overall health of the hair too – like treating dandruff, promoting hair growth, averting premature greying of hair- onion juice /oil/pulp shows effective results.
A 3-in-1 onion based combo from Sesa:
Sesa has been one of the leading ayurvedic hair Care experts for 25 years. The brand has a newly launched Onion range in its 3-step kit infused with medicinal Ayurvedic herbs. The USP of the kit is it boosts hair growth and repairs hair damage using the goodness of Onions.
I recently got my hands on the kit after being recommended about it by a friend. The kit has Onion-based hair oil, shampoo and a conditioner.
Let me take you through the features and my honest review of each product.
Sesa Hair Oil:
The oil has an extract of onions, ayurvedic herbs like Bhringaraj, Brahmi, Hibiscus and Curry leaves, and cold-pressed oils like Jojoba, Olive, Almond and Carrot seed. Together the concoction helps boost hair growth, repair damaged hair, solves the problem of hair fall and premature greying of hair and also brings back the lost lustre to the hair.
This made in India certified ayurvedic product is free of mineral oils, chemicals and parabens.
How to use:
- Apply the oil directly to the scalp using a comb applicator.
- Gently massage the oil on the roots with your fingertips for 10 minutes.
- Leave the oil overnight for at least 2 hours before washing
- Wash the hair with lukewarm water using Sesa shampoo, followed by conditioner.
First thing first, the oil doesn’t smell of onions at all. In fact, it has a nice subtle aroma; maybe the other ingredients mask the smell of onion extracts. The oil is quite light on the hair and doesn’t feel sticky at all. I have used it 6-7 times so far and can safely say I am on the path of getting the lost sheen in my hair back.
Sesa Onion Shampoo:
The shampoo has extracts of Onion, Reetha and Shikakai, and ayurvedic herbs like Aloe Vera, Hibiscus, Amla and Green tea. Together it makes a potent potion to strengthen hair, adds natural shine and softness to hair, and tackling the problem of itchy scalp and dandruff. The presence of reetha and shikakai, known as natural hair cleansers, makes this shampoo a good buy to remove oily dirt particles deposited on the hair. The shampoo is a certified ayurvedic product.
How to use:
- Apply sesa hair oil overnight or 2 hours before using the sesa shampoo.
- Wet your hair and gently massage the shampoo on the hair to form a lather.
- Rinse off the shampoo using lukewarm water and follow it with a conditioner for better results.
- Shampoo twice a week to see the desired results.
Just like oil, the shampoo too doesn’t smell onion. This too has a nice subtle aroma which lingers on after the hair wash too. After shampooing, my hair doesn’t feel dry and are quite manageable to comb. I have been using it for almost a month and can say this product delivers what it claims. This one is also completely safe to use on my coloured hair.
Sesa Onion Hair Conditioner:
Notable features: The conditioner has extracts of Onion, Reetha and Shikakai, and ayurvedic herbs like Aloe Vera, Hibiscus, Brahmi, and Bhringaraj. All the active ingredients help repair damaged hair, prevent breakage and split ends, and makes hair more manageable after shampooing. The conditioner is certified ayurvedic.
How to use:
- After steps 1 and 2- oiling and shampooing, take a generous amount of conditioner and apply the on the strands of hair.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, for the hair to absorb all the goodness of the conditioner.
- Wash off thoroughly with water.
I have dry hair, so I always condition my hair with a conditioner after the shampoo. It makes my hair quite manageable to handle and improves the overall feel and look of the hair. Sesa conditioner does the same; it makes my hair smoother to comb by adding the required moisture to the hair.
