Two easy ways I use Cucumber in my Skincare routine.

You must have heard the idiom “cool as a cucumber”. It is used for a person who is calm and relaxed. The saying is derived from the cool characteristics of cucumber as it remains fresh, cool, green even in hot weather. Cucumber is 96 per cent water. Since it doesn’t comprise of any harsh ingredient, it is safe to use in DIY skincare recipes; thereby, keeping you “cool as a cucumber”.

Why Cucumber works?

Cucumbers contain vitamin C and caffeic acid that soothe skin conditions like redness, inflammation, and blemishes.

They are full of antioxidants.

They are good to brighten, hydrate and tone the skin.

cucumberHow I use a Cucumber in my skincare routine:

  1. To soothe puffy eyes: Any relaxation routine is incomplete without placing slices of cucumber on the eyes. And that’s what I do too when my eyes get tired of sitting at the laptop for long hours. All you need to do is take a cold cucumber (from the refrigerator), wash it thoroughly and remove the ends. Now cut 2 slices approx. 1 cm in thickness. Place them on your eyes while lying in a comfortable position. The cooling properties of a cucumber and the presence of a mineral, silica, helps rejuvenate the eyes.
  2. As a face mask: Take 1 tablespoon juice of a cucumber (grate and squeeze the juice). Put it in 1 tablespoon hung curd, add the gel from the vitamin E capsule to make the mask more beneficial (cut the end of the vitamin E capsule with scissors and squeeze out the gel, but avoid this step if you have oily skin). Mix everything and apply it on the face for 10minutes before washing it off.

Vitamin E protects skin from free radicals and moisturizes it too. Curd, along with cucumber enhances the glow of the skin.

In case you are running short of time, but want to reap the benefits of cucumber, try one -ingredient, cucumber face mask. Grate cucumber and squeeze out the juice. You can strain it to remove any solid material. Take a cotton ball and dip it into the juice. Dab it all over the face and let it sit for 15 minutes before you wash it off.

There are other ways too to incorporate cucumber into your skincare routine like adding aloe vera gel or oatmeal in cucumber juice, but the above two are my favourites and can vouch for their effectiveness.

Do try, I am sure you are going to love them. And if you also incorporate cucumber in your skincare regime, please share some recipes or tips in the comments

cucumbers make a nourishing ingredient for a face mask, and a good base for adding other ingredients that can benefit your skin, like honey, aloe vera, or oatmeal.
