I have always been a fan of DIY flaxseed gel for curly hair, but sometimes I get the formula right, and sometimes it becomes a gooey mess. Plus, making a fresh new batch every few days isn’t feasible, so I was looking for a good curly hair gel that could keep my hair in place without adding the dreaded crunchy cast. As mentioned before, finding the right hair gel for curly hair can be quite a task. Honestly, I don’t gel my hair every time I wash it, because I don’t usually have time. I do however use it before I am stepping out or if I know I have a long week of outings ahead of me because gelled hair holds curls for much longer and has more definition. 

Curlvana’s Curl Defining Styling Gel comes in a red tube, with their signature design on it. The packaging is very vibrant and will stand out on your dressing table. The tube consists of 200ml of transparent gel, which isn’t too sticky or tacky. It is packed with ingredients like flaxseed, Hyaluronic Acid and mint that hydrate and define curly hair. 

The Curlvana defining styling gel is very good when it comes to holding the curls. It smoothens the hair shaft and adds a mirror-like shine. The best part is it doesn’t leave a crunchy cast that makes the hair hard. It also helps separate the curls, making them look voluminous and thick. It coats the hair evenly and helps in preventing frizz to a great degree. My 2nd and 3rd-day curls remained intact after having used this gel, and that was quite a pleasant experience.

I am a fan of this curly hair gel. A little goes a long way with it, so I suggest you apply a little and add more if needed. My hair feels featherlight after applying it and the flyaways don’t seem too prominent. It doesn’t contain silicones, parabens, phthalates, and other nasty ingredients that dry out curly hair.
